How to Change the TikTok Algorithm

Introduction

The TikTok algorithm is the secret sauce behind the social network’s success. It rapidly learns what you like and is frighteningly adept at it. We’ll teach you how to update your “For You” page.

You may be asking why you’d ever need to “reset” the algorithm if it’s so effective at getting to know individuals. Shouldn’t it change along with you? That is not always the case. It is sometimes necessary to take a mistake turn and there is nothing you can do to change the direction.

Regrettably, there is no large “RESET” button to push. The only way to properly begin over would be to establish a new account. The good news is that you can do certain things to help rewire your FYP.

Delete Cache

The first thing we can do is delete the cache in your account. A “cache” is merely a software function that saves data for future use. To begin, use the TikTok app and go to the profile page.

Go to the profile tab.

Then, in the upper right corner, hit the hamburger menu symbol and choose “Settings and Privacy.”

Scroll all the way down to “Free Up Space.”

Select "Free Up Space."

Finally, touch the “Clear” button next to “Cache.”

Tap "Clear."

Videos that you “dislike”

Everyone understands that liking a video indicates that you like the material and want to see more of it. Did you realize you could “dislike” videos as well? It’s not a genuine “dislike” button, but it lets TikTok know that you’re not interested in videos that appear on your “For You” tab.

Simply press and hold on a video from the “For You” tab.

Long-press on a video.

A menu will appear, from which you may choose “Not Interested.” Tap “More” if you want to be more precise about why you’re not interested.

Tap "Not Interested" or "More."

You may now select between “Hide Videos From This User” and “Hide Videos With This Sound.”

Hide options.

Accounts to be unfollowed

The last step may seem apparent, but it should not be missed. Unfollow accounts that you are no longer interested in. Navigate to the profile tab and choose “Following.”

Tap "Following" on your profile.

To unfollow any account, just hit the “Following” icon.

Tap "Following" to unfollow.

That’s the only thing there is to it. These tactics will not suddenly return you to the days when you spent a lot of time on TikTok, but they will help modify the path of the algorithm over time. It’s just as vital to tell TikTok what you don’t like as it is to tell it what you like.
