Introduction
In some scenarios, Google Chrome will transform to a touch-friendly tablet mode if you have a tablet or a convertible PC. This UI is now available on more devices as with Chrome 99. We’ll teach you how to entirely deactivate it.
Chrome’s tablet mode is touch-optimized, with a more simple UI. This may not be a pleasant change for some. It might seem to be too simplistic. Unfortunately, there is no easy toggle to turn off, however we can change it using feature flags.
- Please be aware that certain functionalities are concealed for a purpose. They may not function properly and may have a detrimental influence on the performance of your browser. Enabling flags is entirely at your own risk.
We now know that there are two flags linked with Chrome’s tablet mode, according to Chrome Unboxed’s Robby Payne: “Touch UI Layout” and “WebUI Tab Strip.” This is true for Chrome on Windows 11 and Windows 10, as well as Chromebooks.
To begin, launch the Chrome browser on your computer or tablet and enter chrome://flags in the address bar.
You are currently on the “Experiments” page. To locate “Touch UI Layout,” use the search box at the top.
Select “Disabled” from the drop-down option.
Rep the procedure for “WebUI Tab Strip.”
After deactivating the flags, you must restart the browser for the change to take effect. When you’re finished, click the blue “Relaunch” icon.
That’s all! Chrome will no longer utilize the tablet mode user interface. You won’t feel as though you’re using a simplified version of Chrome any more. If you ever wish to reactivate it, just return both of these flags to their previous states.
